The main reason for using DDtrac is to collect data on a student. To perform data entry you will need a data collection device such as a PC, wireless tablet, or other internet device. Before you may take data on a student you will need to have your site administrator set up a user account for you and the student will need to be set up in the database so that you can collect data on specific goals and objectives.

These kinds of data may be taken for individual students using DDtrac:
All of the data entry (except for the qualitative data) utilizes checkboxes, radio buttons and dropdown lists to minimize the amount of time the user spends on data entry.

When the user enters DDtrac they select a student to work with from a link on the DDtrac home screen. After reading the recent past narrative comments from the other practitioners working with the student the user indicates they want to start a new work session which takes them to a page that displays all of the instructional objectives currently being worked on by the student. Objectives are grouped by the instructional goal that they fall under. To collect data for one of the objectives, the user clicks on one of the named hyperlinks on the page and then enters data for the targets associated with that objective (See the Figure below). The type of control used for data entry varies depending on the objective. All of the data collection types identified in data collection types are supported by DDtrac.

Once data is collected one may analyze it using charts and reports built into DDtrac and/or use data exchange to exchange data with some other application like Microsoft Excel.
